ONE handicapper David Marshall came out on top as Ross-on-Wye Golf Club held its annual Seniors Championship to determine who became the club’s 2024 Seniors Champion.
The competition for senior male members aged over 55 continues to enjoy exceptional support and 115 competitors took part.
It was Marshall, who joined the Ross Club only two years ago, who was crowned Ross Seniors champion for the second year running.
Once again, as in 2023, Marshall posted an impressive raw round of 72 which has only been matched twice before in the history of the competition.
Marshall’s medal round at the Seniors Championship to win the Peter Carton-Kelly Cup included four birdies on his first nine holes and another birdie on the difficult 17th hole was decisive.
Michael Burris with a medal round of 74 gross moved closer to Marshall and meant that 2022 seniors champion Steve Woods with a gross of 75 and runner-up in 2023 had to settle for third place this time.
Woods was followed by Jason Bolton, Steve Wallbank and Paul Stone with raw 76s.
In the net handicap division, to determine the winner of the Marsh Allan Trophy, it was the closest fight and the countdown decided Steve Bartholomew the winner after him, Ross Club captain Mark Whitmore and Kevin Powell, winner of the Trophy The year 2020 ended with 68 net medals.
