England begin their Women’s T20 World Cup against Bangladesh in Sharjah on Saturday.
Heather Knight’s side are among the favorites to lift the trophy and will be looking to get off to a winning start, particularly given the tough test they face on Monday against reigning world champions South Africa and favorite of Group B, which inflicted a defeat of 10 wickets. over the West Indies in their opening match on Friday.
Bangladesh are already in the picture after winning the opening match of the tournament against Scotland by 16 runs, although they got lucky after a poor Scotland squad squandered several routine chances.
Bangladesh was supposed to host this World Cup – the Bangladesh Cricket Board still technically holds the organizing rights – but civil unrest in the country forced the United Arab Emirates to intervene late.
The crowds were sorely missed in the opening matches, but England’s players will be more focused on the action on the friendly Sharjah pitch, which is expected to play into the hands of spinners Sophie Ecclestone and Sarah Glenn.
