by Blue skies and sunshine are in store for New South Wales this long weekend, with Sydney expected to reach 20 degrees on Sunday and during the bank holiday on Monday.
Bureau of Meteorology meteorologist Stephen Stefanac said Friday was expected to be dry for Sydney with a maximum temperature of 23C, with mostly sunny weather becoming increasingly cloudy later in the day.
“A front will arrive on Saturday bringing a few showers, with temperatures between 20 and 20 degrees and some sunshine as well,” he said.
Beachgoers will only have to worry about the wind on Sunday and Monday, with dry and sunny conditions reaching 29°C on Sunday and 27°C on Monday, accompanied by north to northwest winds.
It’s good news for NRL and NRLW fans, with around 80,000 people expected at Sydney Olympic Park for the women’s and men’s grand finals on Sunday afternoon.
New South Wales, Queensland, South Australia and the Australian Capital Territory will celebrate Labor Day or the King’s Birthday on Monday.
Stefanac said there would be “plenty of opportunities to see clear skies and sunshine” for states and territories enjoying a long weekend.
“The weather looks mostly dry and sunny almost everywhere, with showers on Friday and Saturday clearing up for the rest of the weekend,” he said.
The rest of New South Wales is expected to see some showers early in the weekend, with cool north and northwest winds.

“The main thing to watch out for is a front that will pass through western and southern New South Wales on Friday, with showers and possible storms, which will sweep through Sydney on Saturday and head out to sea for the rest of the weekend,” Stefanac said.
“There will be some continued showers along the southern ranges and adjacent western slopes on Sunday and Monday, but the rest of the state will be dry with moderate to fresh wind gusts.”
For Queensland, Stefanac said most of the long weekend was expected to be nice and sunny, with a front that could see “a few showers” in the state’s south on Friday and Saturday.
Brisbane will reach a high of 32C on Monday after a weekend of 20C and early 30C, with mostly sunny skies and light winds.
Canberra will climb to a maximum of 20C, enjoying a mostly sunny day with winds of 25km/h to 35km/h.
“We’ll see a few showers on Saturday like in Sydney with a front passing through, then the rest of the weekend should be mostly dry and sunny,” Stefanac said.
“The Greater ACT may see some showers along the western border, but Canberra itself is expected to be dry.”
Adelaide has a medium risk of showers on Monday, reaching a high of 20C with partly cloudy conditions and winds between 15km/h and 20km/h.
