Glinda’s Dress was Secondhand

Glinda the Good Witch’s mesmerizing pink gown has become one of the most famous costumes in film history. We’re betting you didn’t know, though, that the dress is not an original. Legendary Hollywood costume designer Gilbert Adrian designed the dress, with layers of delicate pink tulle sprinkled with northern stars and frosty snow crystals—but for someone else.



It was originally worn by Jeanette MacDonald in the 1936 movie San Francisco, there were minor changes made, and then Billie Burke wore it to play the Good Witch. Who would’ve thought?
